According to NBC News, the Biden administration is trying to speed up the effort to replace America’s seventh president, Andrew Jackson with Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill.
The idea of placing Tubman’s image on the $20 bill started in 2016. Tubman is considered to be the pioneer of the “Underground Railroad” movement. The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-19th century, and used by enslaved African-Americans to escape into free states and Canada.
“The Treasury Department is taking steps to resume efforts to put Harriet Tubman on the front of the new $20 notes,” said Psaki, commenting that American currency should “reflect the history and diversity of our country, and Harriet Tubman’s image gracing the new $20 note would certainly reflect that.”
