President Joe Biden has taken fire from all sides for his handling of the withdrawal of U.S. troops for Afghanistan, and voters are paying attention.
The tens of billions of dollars worth of equipment left behind that the Taliban now owns, along with casualties and the rise of a new brand of ISIS have all become points of criticism that are not going away anytime soon.
A new poll out from Rasmussen shows the American people have taken note, and they are not happy with the current president.
“The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan was so badly handled that President Joe Biden should resign because of it, according to a majority of voters,” Rasmussen said. “However, most don’t think Vice President Kamala Harris is qualified to replace Biden if he leaves office.”
The latest poll shows that the majority of Americans believe Biden should resign, in particular for his handling of the U.S. withdrawal, where dozens have been killed, including 13 U.S. service members.
“A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 52% of Likely U.S. Voters believe Biden should resign because of the way the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan was handled,” the group said. “Thirty-nine percent (39%) disagree, and nine percent (9%) are not sure.”
Meanwhile, former president Donald Trump, who may face off against Biden in 2024, is making clear it didn’t have to be this way.
“We had it all planned out, and then they decided to move the military out, and let’s not follow the plan,” Trump said. “It’s like the only thing is, it’s length of border wall. Nobody could handle it worse. We had the greatest — we have the greatest protection that we had ever had on our southern border, and now we have the worst — and it was the worst nightmare to watch it. That looks good by comparison to what’s happening in Afghanistan.”
