Bill Gates is reportedly on a spending spree — buying up acres and acres to become the biggest owner of America’s farmland.
The billionaire Microsoft co-founder is said to be been buying land throughout the county.
(Can’t say I blame him? Given the poor prognosis from America’s urban areas? Increasingly, land has sure been looking quite promising.)
Indeed, Bill Gates now owns a reported 242,000 acres of farmland and nearly 27,000 acres of “other land” in 19 states, according to The Land Report, a magazine for land investors. Gates’ largest holdings are in Louisiana and Arkansas.
Although his foundation is interested in sustainable farming, it’s not clear why he has suddenly invested so much in land, nor how he intends to use his land in the future.
But, he’s got plenty of it. And may soon have more. According to Bloomberg, Bill Gates is the world’s third-richest man in the world. Check out my latest podcast here:
