Several Democratic members of Congress were arrested while protesting the overturn of Roe v. Wade outside the Supreme Court, but one detail of the event has gone viral.
In video of the incident, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., appears to be handcuffed. But after that, the video shows she is not handcuffed and is only holding her hands behind her back as if she were.

The video sparked controversy on Twitter.
AOC: Prison changed me
Ma’am, you didn’t go to prison
AOC: I still experienced what it was like to be arrested
Ma’am, you weren’t arrested
AOC: I had handcuffs on
Ma’am, you were not cuffed
AOC: WHY DO YOU WANT TO DATE ME?

.@AOC so you faked being handcuffed to keep lying to women?
Abortion is legal up until birth in NY, but your voters can’t afford groceries and crime is out of control.
Desperate isn’t a good look on you.
Go back to your Insta makeup tutorials, you’re actually good at those. pic.twitter.com/LYsQU75ZfB

AOC and Ilhan Omar’s handcuffs were as real as pregnant men.

Others criticized the media coverage.
Ilhan Omar and AOC performed fake handcuffs because they knew the media would do this: https://t.co/zXlRYAOnPr
