The Squad has developed a reputation for its anti-Israel stance and anti-semitic comments, but now members of their own party are turning against them.
A dozen House Democrats blasted Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., for her comments comparing the violent terrorist group Hamas with Israel and the U.S. Rep. Omar has repeatedly been in hot water for comments that have been called anti-semitic and very generous to the terrorist group.
This time, Omar grabbed headlines for comments she made apparently comparing Israel and the U.S. with Hamas.
“We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity,” Omar said on Twitter. “We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban. “I asked @SecBlinken
where people are supposed to go for justice.”
The comments sparked outrage.
“Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided,” the Democrats said in a joint statement. “Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one’s intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice. The United States and Israel are imperfect and, like all democracies, at times deserving of critique, but false equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups. We urge Congresswoman Omar to clarify her words placing the US and Israel in the same category as Hamas and the Taliban.”
Other members of the Squad came to her defense.
“Pretty sick & tired of the constant vilification, intentional mischaracterization, and public targeting of @IlhanMN coming from our caucus,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., wrote on Twitter. “They have no concept for the danger they put her in by skipping private conversations & leaping to fueling targeted news cycles around her.”
