Biden: Afghanistan Could Get A Lot Worse

As bad it Afghanistan has gotten, Biden is now warning “a lot could still go wrong.”

“The evacuation of thousands of people from Kabul is going to be hard and painful, no matter when it started, when we began, would have been true if we had started a month ago, or a month from now,” Biden said. (Story continues below.)

“We have a long way to go. And a lot could still go wrong.”

“Today, the terrorist threat has metastasized beyond Afghanistan,” Biden said over the weekend.

“So, we are repositioning our resources and adapting our counterterrorism posture to meet the threats where they are now significantly higher: in South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. But make no mistake,” he continued, “our military and intelligence leaders are confident they have the capabilities to protect the homeland and our interests from any resurgent terrorist challenge emerging or emanating from Afghanistan.”

Biden said in the same speech that the U.S. may stay beyond their Aug. 31 deadline for withdrawal.

The Taliban quickly responded, warning that the U.S. that decision would have serious consequences.

“President Biden announced that on 31 August they would withdraw all their military forces,” spokesman Suhail Shaheen said in an interview with Sky News. “So if they extend it that means they are extending occupation while there is no need for that. If the US or UK were to seek additional time to continue evacuations – the answer is no. Or there would be consequences. It will create mistrust between us. If they are intent on continuing the occupation it will provoke a reaction.”

President Joe Biden has continued to take fire for his handling of the U.S. withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

The Islamic Taliban terrorists have overrun the country and American citizens as well as Afghan residents who helped the U.S. have been left stranded.

Women are facing mass oppression. Christians, as well as those that helped the Americans, are facing possibly death.
