President Biden stunned the world with a misstep, or two, or three up the stairs while boarding Air Force One en route to Georgia on Friday…but, it’s his misspeaking that has me bothered.
And, I’m not talking about his reference to Vice President Kamala Harris as “President Harris” yesterday which wasn’t great but, hey, it could happen to anyone, right?
Instead, I’m talking his misspeaking on his very own Great American Tax Hike. Biden is proposing the biggest increase in federal taxes since 1993…yet, he doesn’t seem to even know who would be affected by the massive increase.
“Anyone making more than $400,000,” the President promised America in an interview on ABC News Sunday night, “will see a small to significant tax increase.”
“If you make less than $400,000 you’re not going to see one single penny in additional federal tax.”
Well, not quite.
Biden’s press person Jen Psaki came in for the clean up act (again) this week telling reporters that his $400k promise wasn’t quite the case. He misspoke. You see, the $400,000 refers to FAMILIES making that amount of money.
Big difference. (Did Joe forget that women work? That there are often two earners in today’s America?)
You see, if one family member makes $200,00 and another makes $200,000 then, yes, they will both see their taxes go up. Meanwhile, if one family member makes $100k and the the other makes $301k, then yes–again–they’ll BOTH see their taxes go up. It’s called addition.
Apparently, President Biden doesn’t quite seem to understand this. And THAT, to me, is a problem.
If you are the President of the United States with a plan to hike Americans’ taxes by the largest amount in nearly three decades, you ought to know what you’re talking about before sitting down to an interview with a national news network.
It’s clear that even Joe Biden doesn’t quite understand his own tax plan. America could pay the price.
