The U.S. launched airstrikes on a site used by Iranian-backed militants in eastern Syria on Thursday. The strikes are said to be in retaliation for the recent attack on U.S. forces in Iraq.
The airstrike is the first military action by the Biden Administration.
According to the Pentagon’s chief spokesperson John Kirby, “This proportionate military response was conducted together with diplomatic measures, including consultation with coalition partners. The operation,” he said, “sends an unambiguous message: President Biden will act to protect American and coalition personnel.”
This is a developing story.
