Biden Stops Deportations of Illegal Immigrants

“For 100 days, starting January 22, 2021, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will pause removals for certain noncitizens,” said in a statement on Wednesday the Acting Secretary of DHS Daivd Pekoske.

He explained that the order will ensure that those illegal immigrants who had received orders of deportation would receive a fair review.

“The pause will allow DHS to ensure that its resources are dedicated to responding to the most pressing challenges that the United States faces, including immediate operational challenges at the southwest border in the midst of the most serious global public health crisis in a century,” the statement says.

DHS order fulfills one of Joe Biden’s campaign promises. Biden has also indicated that he will be putting forward a legislation that would ensure a path to citizenship for more than 11 million illegals in the United States.
