The jurors in the Derek Chauvin trial came to a verdict on Tuesday. They found Chauvin guilty the murder of George Floyd.
Sentencing will follow. Chauvin could face 12 1/2 years in prison as a first time offender, however, the prosecution has argued that there are aggravating factors that should require a longer sentence.
Meanwhile, it’s possible the defense will file an appeal. It is an issue that Judge Peter Cahill alluded to in yesterday’s session when he suggested that the defense may have something on appeal thanks to the comments made by Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) over the weekend.
