The jury has reached a verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial in Minnesota. Chauvin is the police officer formally charged with the murder of George Floyd last May.
The verdict will be read between 3:30 and 4pm CT, according the court.Â
President Biden said earlier on Monday that he’s ‘praying’ for a guilty verdict in the trial. Speaking with reporters in the Oval Office he said, “I’m praying the verdict is the right.verdict, which is – I think it’s overwhelming, in my view. I wouldn’t say that unless the jury was sequestered now, not hearing my say that.”
His comments follow those of Rep. Maxin Waters who was scolded by Judge Peter Cahill in Minnesota when he called her insistence that the jury delivery a guilty verdict, “abhorrent.” He continued saying he wished lawmakers would have respect for the judicial branch of the government. Judge Cahill added that Waters comments could even result in a potential mistrial upon appeal.
