California is the first state in the country to no longer allow ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ sections in stores.
By law, large stores must now display products, including toys and toothbrushes, in a “gender neutral way.”
The law will not effect the display of clothing, rather, it applies to toys and “childcare items” including hygiene products.
Meanwhile, the law only applies to large stores with more than 500 employees, thereby exempting small business owners from the rules.
The hope is to encourage all children to play with all toys rather than artificially restrict the toys that each gender plays with.
