President Joe Biden has rankled many Americans of faith for his stances on abortion and other issues, but now one group of his own faith is taking Biden to task.
Biden, a self-proclaimed long-time Catholic received a formal rebuke from the Catholic League for his “departures from Catholic teachings” this week. The report comes as the Catholic Church considers whether to deny communion to Biden and other pro-choice politicians, an issue they will discuss in a virtual summit later this month.
Biden has said he is personally against abortion but supports public polices that allow it.
The Catholic League’s report lists 32 offenses from Biden, with his decisions around abortion and gender issues front and center.
“Biden issued an executive order requiring all federal agencies to implement the ruling in the Supreme Court decision Bostock v. Clayton County, which treats sexual orientation
and gender identity as protected classes,” the report says. “This is a grave injustice that erases the differences and complementary relationship between man and woman.”
Biden’s pro-choice policies have been particularly difficult to swallow for Catholics, whose official teachings expressly stress the sanctity of unborn life.
“Biden issued a statement on the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade describing the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision as a ‘foundational precedent’ to which all judicial nominees should commit,” the report reads. “Biden called for Roe’s codification.”
The report also takes issue with Biden exporting abortion policies overseas.
“Biden ordered that the necessary steps be taken to resume funding to the United Nations Population Fund, which promotes family planning through the abortion,” the report reads. Biden directed United States Agency for International Development and other United States government foreign assistance programs to ensure that adequate funds are being
directed to support abortion rights.”
