The transgender debate has been raging for years, but a new request to force doctors to perform transgender sex-change surgeries has taken it to a new level.
President Joe Biden sparked major controversy and backlash when he appealed a previous court ruling in April that said doctors could not be forced to violate their religious conscience by performing transgender sex change surgeries.
The courts have consistently ruled against Biden however, even saying that gender transition surgery has not been proven to actually help patients.
“There is no medical consensus that sex reassignment surgery is a necessary or even effective treatment for gender dysphoria,” the Fifth Circuit appellate court wrote.
Federal Judge Reed O’Connor smacked down Biden’s appeal again this week and gave “a permanent injunction exempting Christian Plaintiffs from that religion-burdening
conduct is the appropriate relief,” meaning medical professionals of faith can’t be forced by the government to violate their conscience on this issue.”
Even an Obama-era medical researchers within Health and Human Services dug into the issue and reported there is no evidence the surgeries are helpful.
“Based on a thorough review of the clinical evidence available at this time, there is not enough evidence to determine whether gender reassignment surgery improves health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries with gender dysphoria,” the HHS research said. “There were conflicting (inconsistent) study results – of the best designed studies, some reported benefits while others reported harms. The quality and strength of evidence were low due to the mostly observational study designs with no comparison groups, potential confounding and small sample sizes. Many studies that reported positive outcomes were exploratory type studies (case-series and case-control) with no confirmatory follow-up.”
Pointing to the lack of medical evidence and the rights of doctors to do surgeries in line with their conscience, some celebrated the court’s decision.
“Today’s ruling protects patients, aligns with current medical research, and ensures doctors aren’t forced to violate their religious beliefs and medical judgment–a victory for common-sense, conscience, and sound medicine,” said Luke Goodrich, senior counsel at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.
The trans issue has also affected female athletes in schools. Read more about that here.
