Court: Dealers Can Sell Guns to Teens

The battle over 2nd Amendment rights has been a regular point of contention between both political parties, but a new court ruling has expanded those rights for teens.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled that a 1968 law preventing the sale of handguns to Americans between the ages of 18-20 was unconstitutional.

Opponents of the law argued that Constitutional rights apply to all Americans and should not be arbitrarily restricted.

“When do constitutional rights vest? At 18 or 21? 16 or 25? Why not 13 or 33?” said U.S. Circuit Judge Julius Richardson in the ruling. “In the law, a line must sometimes be drawn. But there must be a reason why constitutional rights cannot be enjoyed until a certain age. Our nation’s most cherished constitutional rights vest no later than 18. And the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms is no different.”

The announcement comes after President Joe Biden earlier this week promoted his latest gun control proposals.

Crime has skyrocketed around the country after Democrats pushed for, and sometimes succeeded in, defunding local police departments.

Now, they want to blame it on guns.

As part of that effort, Biden unveiled his gun violence plan.

From the White House:

This strategy implements preventative measures that are proven to reduce violent crime, and attacks the root causes – including by addressing the flow of firearms used to commit crimes. This strategy will use the Rescue Plan’s historic funding levels and clear guidance to help state, local, territorial, and tribal governments get the money they need to put more police officers on the beat – with the resources, training, and accountability they need to engage in effective community policing – in addition to supporting proven Community Violence Intervention programs, summer employment opportunities, and other investments that we know will reduce crime and make our neighborhoods safer.

The strategy will also address the direct link between gun violence and the rise in violent crime by taking immediate steps to keep guns out of the wrong hands, including by strengthening ATF’s efforts to stem the flow of firearms used in crimes, and by launching multijurisdictional firearms trafficking strike forces to stop illegal gun trafficking across state lines.
