Social Justice Group calls on Whites in Dallas, Texas to “Make Sacrifices”
Sent Letter to Wealthy Whites Asking Them to “Take a Pledge” to Not Send Children to Ivy League Schools
Asks Recipients to Check a Box, “I am a Racist Hypocrite” or “I agree”
Will Publicly Announce Who Hasn’t Signed the “Pledge”
A group out of Dallas, Texas–which calls itself a crusader for social justice–is calling on affluent white people to take what it calls the ‘college pledge’ and not send their children to Ivy League colleges — so as to save a spot for black students.
In letters written to whites in two wealthy suburbs of Dallas, Dallas Justice Now (as the group is known) asked affluent supporters of Black Lives Matter to take a pledge, writing,
“You earned or inherited your money through oppressing people of color.” It asks that parents not send their children to Ivy Leagues schools or any schools in the U.S. News and World Report top 50 list saying that they must leave spots open for students from ethnic minorities “who were denied access to these institutions for hundreds of years.”
“Instead, leave those spots open for students from Black, LatinX, and other marginalized backgrounds who were denied access to these institutions for hundreds of years.”
It also asks recipients to check one of the two boxes: “I am a racist hypocrite” or “I agree.”
The group said it sent the pledge to the 95 percent of whites in the Highland Park and University Park neighborhoods — and will publicly announce who hasn’t signed it.
