Days After Trump Announced Trip To Border, Kamala Harris Decides To Finally Visit

Just days after former President Donald J. Trump announced that he will be visiting the southern border along with a dozen House Republicans, the White House said on Wednesday that Vice President Kamala Harris will be visiting the border this Friday together with the Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Harris visit to El Paso, Texas, comes after almost three month since President Joe Biden tasked her as the lead to handle the crisis at the border. Yet, Harris has maintained that the reason for not visiting the border was because her assignment was to deal with the “root causes” of migration, therefore to focus on diplomacy and conditions inside the originating countries in central America.

White House defended Harris for not visiting the U.S. southern border saying that she was rather focused on working with “leaders in the Northern Triangle” to address the migration causes and find ways to address the humanitarian challenges in those countries.
