Newly released polling data shows that the majority of Americans believe President Joe Biden is not doing enough to stop the surge in illegal immigration.
Rasmussen regularly tracks Americans’ feelings on immigration and released new data showing that 59% of those surveyed want the feds to do more.
“During his campaign, President Biden pledged to greatly reduce the level of enforcement against illegal immigration, but in the latest survey, 59% of Likely U.S. Voters feel the government is already doing too little to reduce illegal border crossings and visitor overstays,” Rasmussen said. “Fourteen percent (14%) say the government is doing too much. Nineteen percent (19%) rate the level of action as about right. Significantly, 80% of Republicans and 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party say the government is not doing enough to reduce illegal border crossings and visitor overstays, as do 39% of Democrats.”
The data comes as illegal immigration has surged since the start of the Biden administration. At the same time, Biden has changed federal policy to make it harder for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport illegal immigrants.
Americans’ opinions on the issues have changed significantly since last year.
“The index is now nearly 20 points below where it was in late October 2020, indicating voters are looking for tighter immigration control from President Joe Biden’s administration,” Rasmussen said. “The Index is based on a series of questions designed to determine whether voters are moving toward an immigration system that encourages more immigration to the United States or one that reduces the level of immigration here.”
