Step aside, Jeff Bezos. There is a new billionaire at the top of the list.
Elon Musk, the founder of the electric car company Tesla, has just become the richest person in the world, with a net worth of more than $185 billion.
The increase in Tesla’s share price in today’s trading pushed Musk into the top spot. His wealth has grown considerably in the past year as his company’s share value has surged. Then growth has provided him with another title: the fastest rise to the top of the richest people in the world in history. Put another way? Elon Musk is “new money.”
Indeed, at the start of 2020, Musk was barely in the top 50 on the world’s richest list. He was highly criticized for the amount of money Tesla was spending. But what a difference a year makes. His company’s value has grown to more than $750 billion. I repeat, $750 billion.
