Musk’s comments come after similar remarks from Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, who warned that Americans should prepare for a recession.

“Yep, the probabilities in this economy tell you batten down the hatches,” the head of Amazon said in an interview with CNBC. “I think you have to expect that there’s more volatility on the horizon. Now, that doesn’t mean for sure that we have a really difficult economic scenario. But on the distribution of outcomes, there’s a good chance that we have a recession in the United States.”

JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon also made waves with a similar warning, predicting a recession by the middle of next year.

“But you can’t talk about the economy without talking about stuff in the future — and this is serious stuff,” he told CNBC at an economic conference.
