A potential 2024 Presidential challenger to President Joe Biden is taking aim at the handling of Afghanistan and asking details on the Americans left behind.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas requesting information about the Americans stranded by the Biden administration and the Afghans who helped the U.S. who will now be in danger. (Story continues below.)
“The crisis in Afghanistan is of President Biden’s own making, yet the consequences extend beyond the borders of Afghanistan and into the United States,” DeSantis wrote.
DeSantis is asking the same questions as Americans around the country: how did this happen and what can we do to keep people, especially Americans, safe?
“I have a responsibility to protect the safety of every Floridian and stress the imperative of an immediate response,” DeSantis said.
Even the left-wing Washington Post is blasting Biden’s failed handling of the situation.
No response to DeSantis’ has been made public yet, but this is not the only pressure on Biden to give up more information and to do more to help Americans.
“Those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service are heroes,” said DeSantis’ political committee, “Friends of Ron DeSantis” in an email. “Their brave actions were responsible for bringing thousands of Americans, Afghans, and our allies to safety. It was through a love of country that these heroes showed dedication and determination to carry out their mission in the face of incredible danger,” the email asserts. I join my wife Casey in expressing our condolences to the families of those who were tragically lost in Afghanistan. We thank them for their sacrifice and their incredible bravery to help keep our nation safe. These men and women showed tremendous courage and deserved better, and their names should be honored and remembered.”
