Chicago police released a graphic body-cam video showing a police officer shooting th 13-year-old Adam Toledo just as he appeared to be raising his hands.
Chicago police allege that the suspect was carrying a handgun moments before the shooting.
34-year-old officer Eric Stillman had been responding to a call of at least 8 gunshots being fired in the area. Footage showed the officer chasing 13-year-old Adam Toledo at 2:30 a.m. on March 29, in the city’s West Side neighborhood of Little Village, a predominately Mexican immigrant community.
The video showed Stillman chasing Toledo. The officer ordered Toledo to stop, and show his hands, and then firing a single round. Adam Toledo fell dead to the ground. Officer proceeded to rush to Toledo and call the ambulance.
Chicago police also released footage of what appeared to be a handgun in Toledo’s right hand before Stillman opened fire. They claimed that there were only “838 milliseconds between gun shown in hand and single shot”.
