Rumors have been swirling for months about a potential 2024 presidential run by former President Donald Trump, but a new announcement adds even more speculation to those claims.
Trump announced he will hold two more rallies as campaign season draws nearer. The events will be in Iowa and Georgia, critical primary and general election states.
Rallies are being planned in Atlanta on Sept. 25 and in Des Moines on Oct. 9. Ahead of those events, Trump has maintained strong rhetoric on immigration as well as criticism of President Joe Biden over his handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
“Who are all of the people coming into our Country?” Trump said in a statement.
“In addition to the Southern Border, with millions of unvetted people pouring in, we now have tens of thousands of totally unvetted Afghans, who many say are not the ones that should have come in. How many terrorists are among them? How much money is this costing? With all of these developments, our Country is more unsafe now than ever before—and many Americans are still left behind!”
Trump has been teasing another presidential bid all year, saying his supporters will be “very, very happy.”
“The answer is I’m absolutely enthused. I look forward to doing an announcement at the right time,” Trump told Candace Owens in an interview. “As you know, it’s very early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement.”
Trump also told Fox Business he would consider Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis as a potential running mate.
“Sure, I would,” Trump said when asked about the DeSantis. “I would certainly consider Ron. I was at the beginning of Ron.“I was the first one to endorse him when he came out as a congressman that a lot of people didn’t know…and my endorsement helped him tremendously, and I know him very well. He’s a great guy.”
