The moment of truth for Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is here. A hotly contested recall election is underway and, today, voters will decide the fate of California’s Gubernatorial race in a crowded field that could potentially unseat the Democratic governor.
Leading the pack of challengers is Larry Elder, a conservative radio show host, author and attorney who says Newsom’s path for California should be reversed immediately.
“End the failed Gavin Newsom experiment,” he said. “It’s time for a change.”
But Newsom has held strong–encouraging voters to reject the recall effort.
Newsom called on the state to “show the rest of the nation that we refuse to allow Republicans to drag California backwards,” adding they should “leave nothing to chance.”
The two candidates differ greatly on political ideology. President Joe Biden campaigned for Newsom Monday, asking voters to support him.
“All of you know last year I got to run against the real Donald Trump,” Biden told a crowd in California. “Well, this year, the leading Republican running for governor is the closest thing to a Trump clone that I have ever seen in your state.”
In recent days, Elder has laid out his vision for a different California.“The number one reason for the loss is that people cannot afford a home,” stressed Elder. “Businesses are leaving twice as much as they were three years ago. Even tech is leaving. For the last 17 years, business CEOs have named California as the worst state to do business in the country.”
He added that the governor could reign in the liberal state lawmaker, leaders who have skyrocketed the state’s debt, spiked its taxes, and enacted a litany of social policy changes.
“You’ll be amazed at how much saner bills can become if you veto them,” Elder said.
