Jay Leno Laughs At The Oscars For Will Smith Slap Investigation

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars sparked days of controversy and debate over whether Smith should get to keep his Oscar.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has now banned Smith for ten years, but Leno mocked the need for an investigation following the incident.

“What are you investigating?,” Leno told the Palm Beach Daily News. “It had to be the most recorded assault in history. I saw the back of his shoe, I saw Chris’ ear. There were so many cameras on this incident. What are you investigating? I know sometimes things are just what they appear to be.”

Leno said the shouting of obscenities was the more disturbing part of the incident.

“To me, the thing that’s most disturbing wasn’t the slap, because he was kind of smirking after he slapped [Chris Rock],” he told the Palm Beach Daily News. “It was the yelling of the obscenities. Then you go, ‘Whoa. What’s going on here?’ This is real anger.'”

Leno has also discussed Smith’s marriage and said something most Americans already know to be true: open marriages don’t work.
