President Joe Biden is sparking a nationwide controversy as a results of his federal vaccine mandate that will affect an estimated 100 million Americans.
Now, recent polling suggests the majority of voters aren’t happy.
A newly released Quinnipiac University National Poll reports that the majority disapprove of the vaccine mandate plan the president announced earlier this month.
According to Quinnipiac, “A slight majority of Americans (51 – 48 percent) disapprove of President Biden’s plan to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for millions of Americans in the public and private sectors,” the poll said. “Republicans disapprove 84 – 13 percent, independents disapprove 56 – 44 percent, and Democrats approve 89 – 10 percent.”
Only 10% of Americans think the plan should be expanded to include more Americans.
“Nearly half of Americans (48 percent) think Biden’s vaccine mandate plan to get more Americans vaccinated goes too far, 10 percent think it does not go far enough, and 39 percent think it’s about right.”
“‘It didn’t have to be this bad,’ say voters,” said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy. “The nearly three to one margin of Americans who feel the country should have by now turned the corner on COVID underscores deep, lingering concern over the still menacing virus.”
Opponents point out Biden promised he would not enact a federal vaccine mandate. Legal challenges have already arisen against Biden’s requirements.
“Joe Biden told Americans when he was elected that he would not impose vaccine mandates,” RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel said. “He lied. Now small businesses, workers, and families across the country will pay the price. Like many Americans, I am pro-vaccine and anti-mandate. Many small businesses and workers do not have the money or legal resources to fight Biden’s unconstitutional actions and authoritarian decrees, but when his decree goes into effect, the RNC will sue the administration to protect Americans and their liberties.”
According to the poll, Biden does have more favor on a more narrowly tailored portion of his plan.
“As for a key part of the mandate plan, Americans say 53 – 46 percent that they approve of Biden’s plan to mandate that all employers with more than 100 employees require all employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccine or undergo at least weekly testing,” the poll said.
