Americans could finally breathe a sigh of relief as many of the mask mandates around the country finally began to lift. Well, they could.
These days, however, one of America’s most liberal cities has decided to bring back the days of mandatory masks.
The Los Angeles County of Public Health has announced that locals must wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
This certainly came as a surprise to Californians who hoped getting a vaccine would finally set their faces free.
“Community transmission of COVID-19 has rapidly increased from Moderate to Substantial, based on the trend in daily new cases of COVID-19,” the LA public health office said. “The Los Angeles County Health Officer Order will be modified to require masking for everyone while indoors, regardless of vaccination status, as Los Angeles County sees more than a seven-times increase in new cases since the June 15 reopening. Wearing a mask when indoors reduces the risk of both getting and transmitting the virus. This additional layer of protection can help to slow the spread and does not limit business occupancy and operations.”
This comes after the recent news that the Federal Aviation Administration levied 6-figure fines on airline passengers who refused to obey rules about wearing masks on flights.
“Since Jan. 1, 2021, the FAA has received approximately 3,271 reports of unruly behavior by passengers, including about 2,475 reports of passengers refusing to comply with the federal facemask mandate,” the FAA said. “We have identified potential violations in 540 cases and have initiated enforcement action in 83 cases. During the same timeframe, the FAA has proposed more than $682,000 in fines against unruly passengers, including today’s cases.”
“The FAA is strictly enforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward passengers who cause disturbances on flights, fail to obey flight crew instructions in violation of the FAA’s regulations, or engage in conduct proscribed by federal law,” the FAA added.
