Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Thursday he would “absolutely” support Donald Trump should he became the GOP presidential nominee in 2024.
McConnell was on Fox News “Special Report” when he said that “there’s a lot to happen between now and ’24. I’ve got at least four members, I think, that are planning on running for president, plus governors and others. There is no incumbent, [so it] should be a wide-open race and fun for you all to cover.”
This is quite a departure from McConnell’s last week statements where he said that “Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the [US Capitol insurrection].”
Former President Trump responded to McConnell’s speech by calling him “a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack.”
