The latest polling shows Americans are deeply concerned about the direction of the country and their representatives in Washington.
A new NBC poll released one day before Tuesday elections in several states found that 71% of voters think the country is on the wrong track. On top of that, 60% have a negative view of Biden’s handling of the economy.
Meanwhile, 71% of the country–according to the poll–believes the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Unsurprisingly, Americans are less than impressed with Congress, with a mere 21% approving of Congress’ work, according to a recent Gallup poll.
“While still better than the 15% approval rating at the end of the divided 116th Congress in December, today’s reading is well below this year’s high point of 36%,” Gallup said. “That was measured after Congress passed the latest COVID-19 economic relief package, known as the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.”
All these trends make for an interesting election day and could have big impacts if continued into 2022. Overall, Democrats have reportedly lost enthusiasm because of Congress’ failure to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill.
“Democrats’ approval remained high through May, before falling to 38% in June after Congress failed to reach bipartisan agreement on an infrastructure package by Biden’s Memorial Day deadline,” Gallup said. “Democrats’ approval rebounded somewhat over the summer but has plunged again in the latest measure, as disagreement among Democrats over Biden’s major spending bill has continued. As congressional Democrats are still attempting to reach consensus on a spending bill, 33% of Democrats approve and 65% disapprove of the job Congress is doing, essentially a reversal of the February figures (61% approval, 37% disapproval).”
Republicans argued Monday that Biden’s issues will hurt Democrats on Tuesday, including in normally safe blue states like New Jersey.
“A new poll shows only 44% of suburban voters approve of Biden’s job performance, which is BAD NEWS for New Jersey Democrats,” the National Republican Congressional Committee said. “New Jersey Dems should think twice before continuing to support Biden’s toxic agenda.”
