Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) and Republican nominee Glenn Youngkin remain locked in a tight contest for governor of Virginia, a University of Mary Washington statewide survey shows.

The poll, conducted by Research America Inc. Sept. 7-13, included 1,000 Virginia adults. Of those, 885 were registered voters and 528 were likely voters. Among likely voters, 48 percent favored Youngkin and 43 percent backed McAuliffe. Liberation Party candidate Princess Blanding received the support of 2 percent of likely voters, with others undecided.

That poll is a change for the race, which has so far had the incumbent Democrat with the better chance of coming out ahead.

But Virginia isn’t the only state where Democrats are having trouble

A recent poll from the Detroit Regional Chamber reported that only 39% of residents approve of Biden’s job performance as president while The Des Moines Register in Iowa showed that only 31% of Iowans approve the president’s job performance.

A noter poll in Virginia found 51% of voters disapprove of Biden’s job performance. The Saint Anselm College Survey Center showed that 55% of New Hampshire residents disapprove of Biden’s job as president.

“Every vulnerable Democrat will be forced to answer for their unwavering support of a deeply unpopular president,” said National Republican Congressional Committee Spokesman Mike Berg.

The polling is likely tied to President Joe Biden’s overall dip in national polls. His chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, difficulty at the southern border, and ongoing COVID problems have sent his poll numbers steadily dropping in recent weeks.

Convention of States Action found that roughly 70% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of the withdrawal.

“There is absolutely no question that the American people are not buying the lies on Afghanistan. This is Saigon, and it’s far worse. Our nation has watched the same group of leaders in Washington DC flounder and blunder on foreign policy, on COVID-19, on the border, and on the economy,” said Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action. “After spending more than $1 trillion dollars and enduring wounded and dead soldiers, we are confronted with a basecamp for terror, a foreign policy nightmare, and are now less safe here at home. Time for new leadership.”
