Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Joe Biden have been at odds since the president took office. Now it appears a lawsuit could be in the works.
DeSantis lambasted Biden Friday for his federal vaccine mandates, saying he will sue the administration.
“Let’s not have Biden come in and effectively take away, threaten to take away, the jobs of people who have been working hard throughout this entire pandemic,” DeSantis said. “I am offended that a police officer could potentially lose their job.”
DeSantis argues the mandates are hurting the economy in his home state and violate the Constitution.
“Attempting to impose an unconstitutional mandate on the American people that will cause people to lose their jobs and will leave key industries shorthanded is divisive,” DeSantis said. “Floridians should not lose their jobs due to heavy-handed mandates.”
He also pointed out the requirements could put hospitals in a pinch in a time when they cannot afford to lose more staff. Many hospitals have lost hundreds of nurses because of the mandates.
“I just think its fundamentally wrong to be taking people’s jobs away particularly given the situation that we see ourselves facing with the economy where you need people in a lot of these key areas,” he said referencing essential workers and those who have remained on the front lines of the pandemic. “What’s going to happen with these hospitals if these mandates are allowed to go in, where they already need more nurses?”
DeSantis also took issue with Biden’s immigration policy, a point of contention that seems unlikely to go away anytime soon.
“This latest action by DHS should come as no surprise given that mass illegal immigration is this administration’s policy, but yet again, Florida will fill the chasm left by the Biden Administration’s refusal to enforce the law,” said DeSantis. “State and federal law explicitly prohibit the employment of illegal aliens. In Florida, we will enforce the law, and we will protect the jobs and wages of Florida’s workers.”
