Former President Donald Trump is hoping his influence will help unseat Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyoming.
Trump announced that he will be meeting with several candidates who are running– or considering running–against Rep. Cheney in her primary. Cheney was a constant critic of the former President’s and spent the last several years opposing Trump. (Story continues below.)
A Trump endorsement of Cheney’s opponent could be a fatal blow to the sitting Congresswoman’s tenure in Congress.
“Remember though, in the end we just want ONE CANDIDATE running against Cheney,” he said. “I’ll be meeting with some of her opponents in Bedminster next week and will be making my decision on who to endorse in the next few months. JUST ONE CANDIDATE. Thank you!”
Rep. Cheney came especially under fire with the Trump base after siding with Democrats and a few other Republicans in voting for Trump’s impeachment.
“Paying close attention to the Wyoming House Primary against loser RINO Liz Cheney. Some highly respected pollsters tell me she’s toast in Wyoming after siding with Crazy Nancy Pelosi and supporting the Democrat Impeachment Hoax,” Trump said in a statement. “And that’s just the beginning! This is a ‘hot’ race with some very interesting candidates running against her.”
The news come after several reports that Trump has decided to run for president again in 2024. When asked in May by Candace Owens if he would run, Trump hinted strongly that he would, one of many similar instances.
“The answer is I’m absolutely enthused. I look forward to doing an announcement at the right time,” Trump told Owens. “As you know, it’s very early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement.”
More recently, Cheney came under fire from Trump supporters for a Washington Post op-ed where she attacked Trump.
“Trump is seeking to unravel critical elements of our constitutional structure that make democracy work — confidence in the result of elections and the rule of law. No other American president has ever done this,” she wrote.
