Stocks Dip, But Still Set To Close Year Near Records – S&P 500 Up 27% in 2021

The S&P 500 and DOW Jones Industrial average retreated from record highs on Thursday, as investors weighed Omicron worries but are still on pace to close 2021 near record highs.

2021 was an unprecedented year for equity markets – the S&P 500 reached record highs 71 times over the last year and up 27% in the last year.

The stock highs came amid a massive growth in the money supply, as well. The Fed’s unprecedented stimulus caused investors to bid up the prices of stocks and commodities.

Meanwhile, supply shortages helped drive commodity prices even higher.

Inflation rose considerably in 2021 with prices seeing the their biggest increase in nearly 40 years.

In 2022, investors will be most focused on the Fed’s ability to deal with inflation.
