Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Lee signed a measure into law Monday that will ban teachers from teaching certain concepts of race and racism in public schools. Teachers would risk losing valuable state funding if they violate the new measure.
Tennessee lawmakers passed HB 0580/SB 0623 that would withhold funding from schools when students are taught about topics like systemic racism and white privilege.

“The Governor signed the bill and believes Tennessee students should be taught history and civics with facts, not divisive political commentary.” a Spokesperson for Governor Lee told Fox 17.
In Florida another republican governor vowed to ban “critical race theory” in the state’s schools, saying:
“It’s offensive to the taxpayer that they would be asked to fund critical race theory. That they would be asked to fund teaching kids to hate their country and hate each other,” said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
