Texas Gov Abbot Suggests Beto Would Issue a Gun Ban in Texas

Former presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke announced his bid to be the governor of Texas this past week and his opponent is already circling with the suggestion that Beto (as he’s known) will rid the historically conservative state of its gun rights.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott‘s campaign released a video Wednesday with a clip of all O’Rourke’s most controversial comments.

The video highlights O’Rourke’s support for gun laws, dismantling the police as well as his opposition to the border wall. It comes just days after O’Rourke’s announcement was immediately tainted by opponents reminding Texas voters of his anti-gun stances.

“I think most Texans can agree — maybe all Texans can agree — that we should not see our friends, our family members, our neighbors, shot up with weapons that were originally designed for use on a battlefield,” O’Rourke told the Texas Tribune.

The comments quickly sparked controversy.

“We all know Beto O’rourke is running for Governor of Texas,” said conservative commentator Ryan Fournier. “What most don’t know is that he is VOWING to take away AR-15’s in the State of Texas. Don’t tread on us, Beto!”

Whether O’Rourke can overcome these stances, which are add odds with the majority of the right-leaning Texas electorate, remains to be seen.
