The former president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, was found guilty of trying to bribe a magistrate in a court on Monday. He was sentenced to one year in prison.
Sarkozy is the first President in France’s modern history to be put on trial for corruption. He was president of France between 2007 and 2012.
Sarkozy has denied all allegations against him.
The former President is also facing charges of having illegally financed his presidential campaign and faces an additional trial for those accusations next month. The investigation into his campaign financing began in 2013.
