There is a certain democrat from California in the U.S. congress that needs to resign from the House Intelligence Committee. Under the circumstances – it’s the right thing to do.
Per a much discussed report in Axios, a U.S. congressman on the House Intel committee now finds himself engulfed in a scandal surrounding his friendship with an alleged Chinese spy… a woman who, per U.S. intelligence sources in the Axios report, was said to have been trying to infiltrate the democrat party.
The Congressman in question, Eric Swalwell, issued a statement to Axios via his office noting that he cut all ties with Fang Fang (also known as Christine Fang) as soon as the FBI informed him of their concerns in 2015. “Rep. Swalwell, long ago, provided information about this person — whom he met more than eight years ago, and whom he hasn’t seen in nearly six years — to the FBI,” his office told Axios, adding that Swalwell “will not participate” in the story out of concerns about possible classified information.
Meanwhile, his fellow democrats are now circling the wagons, with many–including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi–still insisting that they’re is nothing to see here.
But, there is.
Report: Fang Help Raise Money for Congressional Campaign
For starters, Fang Fang is said to have helped raise money for Swalwell’s Congressional campaign in 2014. Why, I ask, would a Chinese national be raising money for a U.S. Congressional election? And, shouldn’t it have been a red flag (no China pun intended) that she was a foreigner raising money for a U.S. election?
Report: Fang Place Intern in Swalwell’s Office
Moreover, Fang Fang allegedly placed an intern in Swalwell’s office. If so, we’re effectively leaving the door open to China via an intern on Capitol Hill?
Nonetheless, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesn’t quite see an issue. She told a Fox reporter on Capitol Hill that, “I don’t know that it means that we have background checks for every intern who comes into the Capitol.”
We shouldn’t? And, by the way, who knew that we didn’t?? In this day in age, shouldn’t we be conducting background checks on everyone who has such close proximity to our nation’s lawmakers?
Let me break it down in terms the “Marie Antoinette of Capitol Hill” may understand; I am most certain that she would conduct a background check on someone who was about to work in her Pacific Heights home, would she not?
So, why wouldn’t we conduct background checks on the people that are working in AMERICA’S home… I mean, she is speaker of the HOUSE. Shouldn’t she be protecting OUR House from Chinese spies?
At this moment, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is calling for Swalwell to resign from the Intelligence Committee, calling him a “national security threat.”
It’s an interesting (and unfortunate) turn of fate considering that the California congressman made a big deal about the Russia narrative with Trump, his family and his campaign.
But, apparently, he had some “spy” issues of his own.
One thing that’s very clear: China is playing the long game–on the technology front, on the economic front, on the political front and, on the intelligence front. Anyone who doesn’t see this is sorely mistaken.
It’s time to wake up. The China threat is real.
