Newly unveiled sanctions will hit Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle hard, and Trish Regan is unpacking what it means for the invasion of Ukraine on her podcast.
“This is something,” Trish Regan said. “I would argue ‘why didn’t we do this last week or the week before?’ But this comes on the heels of course of Monday’s sanctions by the U.S. Treasury Department which stated that Russia could not pay its interest on any of its outstanding debt via its U.S. dollar accounts…again I would say it’s about time.”
Trish Regan pointed to the new U.S. sanctions against Russia, which include sanctions against some of Putin’s relatives.
“We’ve got news that two of Vladimir Putin’s daughters, who he has never actually formally acknowledged, but this is from a marriage he had back when he was a KBG officer years ago, his wife gave birth to two girls,” Trish Regan said. “They have now both been sanctioned…it’s believed money has been kept in the U.S. for both of these women.”
The news of sanctions against these and other family members come after Trish Regan recently called for action against Putin’s inner circle on a recent podcast.
“The problem with sanctions is not only are we dragging our heels and haven’t really thrown everything at them, but heck sanctions are worse for Venezuela right now than they are for Russia. Venezuela has not been bombing cities and going door to door and killing people.”
