Former President Donald J Trump was acquitted for the second time on Saturday. The United States Senate trial focused on the charge that the House Democrats presented of Trump inciting an insurrection on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol building.
Today’s acquittal makes him the first U.S. President to be impeached and acquitted twice in history. The House of Representatives impeached him for the second time on Jan. 13, just days before leaving office.
In a 57-43 vote, seven Republican senators voted with Democrats, they were: Sens. Burr of North Carolina, Cassidy of Louisiana, Collins of Maine, Murkowski of Alaska, Romney of Utah, Sasse of Nebraska and Toomey of Pennsylvania.
While it was unknown how many republicans will vote to convict Trump, it was almost certain that Democrats would not be able to gain the 67 votes needed to convict the former president.
The real question is what did the Democrats achieve by getting entire country through the second impeachment again?
America today is more divided than ever before, while instead of hurting Trump, they made him a political martyr, which for sure will strengthen his chances and his ability to lead o possible return in politics in 2024.
