President Donald Trump looks like he could be readying a comeback.
“I don’t think we’re going to have a choice,” Trump told Fox News when asked about a potential 2024 White House run.
He continued saying, “It is disgraceful. When you look at Afghanistan and what happened, and the death for no reason, just for no reason… [military] parents – they want to speak with me – they don’t want to speak with Biden.”
Though some Republicans like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis have risen to the forefront as potential 2024 candidates, any challengers would likely have a tough fight to beat Trump in a primary.
In the interview, Trump hit on Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal, which has been a major political struggle for the incumbent president.
Indeed, the most recent Economist/YouGov poll reported Biden’s approval had plummeted to an all-time low since he took office, with 39% of Americans approving of his performance and 49% disapproving.
“The drop in Biden’s approval rating is most severe among Democrats,” the poll reports. “Around nine in ten of them had approved of Biden’s performance for nearly all of his first year in office. This week, Biden’s approval rating among Democrats dropped nine points to 77% from 86% last week.”
If Trump does run, he will likely seek to leverage that issue against Biden.
Of course, this isn’t Trump’s first time to suggest a run for president.
The former president said earlier this year that his supporters would be “very happy” with his decision.
“The answer is I’m absolutely enthused,” Trump told Candace Owens during an interview on her show when she asked if he would run again for president in 2024. “I look forward to doing an announcement at the right time. You know for campaign finance reasons, you really can’t do it too early because it becomes a whole different thing.”
