The socialist representative from New York, Alexandra Occassio Cortez, called it “unacceptable” that individual online investors were prohibited from buying shares of Gamestop on the Robinhood app platform Thursday.
The Congresswoman demanded an investigation, tweeting that, “We now need to know more about @RobinhoodApp’s decision to block retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds are freely able to trade the stock as they see fit. As a member of the Financial Services Cmte, I’d support a hearing if necessary.”
Trading platforms, including Robinhood, blocked purchases of Gamestop on Thursday as the stock soared in trading causing a melt-up short squeeze.
