Criminals Are Well-Organized
Rachel Michelin, president of the California Retailers Association (CRA), said that San Francisco is the fifth-worst city in the nation for retail theft.
Shoplifters are not working alone. According to Michelin, they are often “juveniles and unhoused people” tapped by organized crime to do the dirty work.
CRA claims that Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento have some of the most organized retail crime in the country.
Target and Wallgreens have recently announced heightened security efforts across their California stores.
“For more than a month, we’ve been experiencing a significant and alarming rise in theft and security incidents at our San Francisco stores, similar to reports from other retailers in the area” Target representative stated.
Walgreens has shut 17 of its stores in San Francisco since 2015.
