A string of very odd live stream moments is raising new questions about President Joe Biden’s mute button. Namely, what is going on?
The controversy started during a White House live stream. The live stream cut out after Biden went off script, saying, “can I ask you a question?” This sparked a flurry of rumors and speculation, and a tweet from the Republican National Committee went viral:
“‘Can I ask you a question?”‘ *White House feed cuts out” it read.
Some mocked the moment while others suggested someone could be censoring the president to avoid a verbal flub, which Biden is known to commit with some regularity.
This isn’t the first time controversy has occurred because of the live feed.
Within recent weeks, the White House cut Biden’s live feed after a reporter asked a tough question:
“If Americans are still in Afghanistan after the deadline what will you do?”
To be fair, the remarks appeared to be ending regardless, but critics of the President insist the controversy plays into the bigger question about the mental fitness of Biden, who has been advised by his own staff not to call on reporters and to stick to the script.
The issue went from internet musing to national discourse when Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, brought the topic up at a Congressional hearing. Sen. Risch asked Secretary of State Anthony Blinken about the mute button during his recent hearing.
“Are you saying there is no one in the White House who can cut him off because yesterday that happened and it’s happened a number of times before that,” Sen. Risch asked. “It’s been widely reported that somebody has the ability to push the button and cut off his sound and stop him from speaking. Who is that person?”
Blinken responded that no person has that role, but for now, Americans seem unconvinced as recent poll numbers suggest new challenges for the President.
In the meantime, one can always blame ‘technical difficulties.’
