While Trump supporters around the nation eagerly await whether the former president will make a run for the White House in 2024, President Biden’s team is already preparing to potentially run against him.
“I wouldn’t want to estimate or underestimate Donald Trump as an opponent if he chooses to run,” Klain said.
“My experience, Mike, is that incumbent presidents are judged on their record,” he added. “President Trump had a bad record in 2020. Joe Biden is hopefully assembling a powerful record to run on if he runs for reelection in 2024.”
Trump has teased his supporters several times in recent months, saying he was strongly considering a run.
Just last week, the former president said his supporters would be “very happy” with his decision.
“I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement,” Trump said during an interview with Candace Owens. “Otherwise I’d give you an answer that I think you’d be very happy with. All I say is, ‘Stay tuned.’”
Other potential Republican contenders include Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, among others.
The former president has managed to stay in the news regularly, most recently with the announcement from Facebook that they would keep his ban from the social media platform in place, at least for now.
Anti-big tech sentiment has become a major talking point for many Republicans who point to liberal bias and unfair treatment by companies like Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, and Google.
In response to his continued suspension from Facebook, Trump rallied his supporters and lambasted the social media giant.
“What Facebook, Twitter, and Google have done is a total disgrace and an embarrassment to our Country,” Trump said. “Free Speech has been taken away from the President of the United States because the Radical Left Lunatics are afraid of the truth, but the truth will come out anyway, bigger and stronger than ever before. The People of our Country will not stand for it! These corrupt social media companies must pay a political price, and must never again be allowed to destroy and decimate our Electoral Process.”
