‘Why Don’t You Do Your Job?’ Biden And DeSantis Face Off Over COVID Rules

As concerns over COVID and the new delta variant increase, so does the debate over restrictions, mandates and how to respond to new cases.

In that battle over mandates and personal freedoms, two leading figures have clashed on the left and right, and now their sparring is reaching new levels.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been an outspoken critic of President Joe Biden and a defender of personal freedoms on the COVID issue.

Biden took a passing shot at DeSantis earlier this week.

“Florida and Texas account for one-third of all new COVID-19 cases in the entire country,” Biden said. “Just two states. Look, we need leadership from everyone. If some governors aren’t willing to do the right thing to beat this pandemic, they should allow businesses and universities who want to do the right thing to be able to do it,” Biden said. “I say to these governors: please help. If you aren’t going to help, please get out of the way of the people who are trying to do the right thing.”

The next day, DeSantis responded with his own comments.

“Joe Biden has taken to himself to single out Florida over COVID-19,” DeSantis said.

He went on to call out Biden for potential new rules forcing young children to wear masks at school.

“Joe Biden suggests that if you don’t do lockdown policies, then you should ‘get out of the way,'” DeSantis said. “But let me tell you this: If you’re coming after the rights of parents in Florida, I’m standing in your way. I’m not going to let you get away with it. Why don’t you do your job?”

“Why don’t you get this border secure and until you do that, I don’t want to hear a blip about Covid from you,” he added, pointing to the large number of COVID-infected illegal immigrants Biden allows to enter the country every day.

In response to his passing shot at DeSantis, a reporter followed up with Biden with a question about Governor DeSantis.

Biden quipped, “Governor who?” in a remark sure to further light the partisan fires on the COVID issue.

Though Biden pretended to not know DeSantis, he will likely be seeing a lot more of him, maybe even on the debate stage in the next general election.
