Why Exactly Did Dems Defund Israel’s Iron Dome?

The Squad won a symbolic victory this week in delaying funding for Israel’s Iron Dome, the missile defense system that protects the nation from nearby terrorists who regularly launch rockets into their territory.

The Squad reportedly got House Democrats to remove funding from a short-term federal spending bill.

Republicans are running interference, trying to assure our longtime and important ally of continued support. “Today, I spoke with @YairLapid, Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss my strong support for Iron Dome funding,” said House Majority Leader Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md in response.

“I reiterated my commitment to ensuring Israel receives this needed aid & reaffirmed the importance of bipartisan support for Israel. This evening, I announced on the Floor that the House will consider legislation this week to fully fund Iron Dome. We will act to ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself, and I expect strong, bipartisan support for this effort.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid applauded the news.

“Thank you for your friendship and your unwavering support for Israel’s security,” Lapid said.

This isn’t the first time Democrats have turned against the squad for their anti-Israel stance.

Several House Democrats lambasted Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., in June after she compared the violent terrorist group Hamas with the nation of Israel. Rep. Omar has repeatedly taken fire for remarks that have been called anti-semitic and overly supportive of the terrorist group.

“Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided,” the Democrats said in a joint statement at the time.

“Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one’s intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice. The United States and Israel are imperfect and, like all democracies, at times deserving of critique, but false equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups. We urge Congresswoman Omar to clarify her words placing the US and Israel in the same category as Hamas and the Taliban.”
