Will Republicans Add Border Wall Funding To Infrastructure Bill?

As the southern border crisis continues to grow worse, President Joe Biden has continued to take heat for his failure to address the issue.

Meanwhile, Biden has prioritized his infrastructure bill, which is currently being debated in Congress.

Now, though, Republicans may kill two birds with one stone by adding border wall funding into the infrastructure bill, if Democrats are willing to get onboard.

First reported by Breitbart, Sen. Marsha Blackburn said she would introduce an amendment tot he infrastructure bill Wednesday to fund the border wall.

“The American people should not be forced to foot the bill for Joe Biden’s pet project,” Sen. Blackburn said. “If Joe Biden truly cared about infrastructure, he would build the wall at our southern border. Instead, Biden spent hundreds of millions of dollars to not build a wall and allow illegal aliens to flood into our country.”

Sen. Blackburn’s office said the amendment would “partially defund Joe Biden’s Amtrak Northeast Corridor and reallocate $1 billion to resume construction of the wall at our southern border.”

The amendment will likely face major opposition since Biden treasures his Amtrak projects and Democrats are unlikely to get excited about border wall funding. The debate, though, could become a headache for the Biden administration.

Right now the bill allocates $3.4 billion “for construction and acquisition, and repairs and alterations of border stations and land ports of entry,” which includes $2.5 billion for “projects on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection five-year plan.”

This doesn’t bode well for the wall funding or the immigration crisis.

Thomas Feeley, the former Director with Immigration and Customs Enforcement spoke out on this issue earlier this week.

“I had a case who the guy was a convicted arsonist and they called me and said, ‘Hey, Mr. Feeley. One of our criteria is if the guy hasn’t been arrested in the past 10 years we need to let them go and we’d like you to release them,’” he told Fox News. “‘And I said, ‘I totally get what you’re saying, but… he’s been in prison for 12 years. That’s why he hasn’t been arrested.’ And the answer I got was, ‘We don’t really care,’” he said. “And I had to cut him loose.”
