After a slew of threats and a dangerous encounter with “white powder” in the mail, the wife of Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is speaking out.
The Paul family says the media has unfairly characterized their dangerous run-ins and have turned a blind eye to those on Twitter calling for violence.
“I am sick of the hatred and vitriol from people who boast of their ’empathy and compassion’ in their bios,” Sen. Paul’s wife, Kelley, wrote on Twitter. “Rand will continue to stand up for our constitutionally protected liberties. He will keep questioning the “experts.” We won’t be intimidated. And yes, we have guns.”
Sen. Paul received a suspicious package at his home Monday, raising fears it could be dangerous. Authorities later determined it was not harmful.
“I take these threats immensely seriously,” Sen. Paul said. “As a repeated target of violence, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to encourage violence against me and my family.”
Sen. Paul has been the source of continued threats and was surrounded by a mob near the White House last year.
Kelley went on to skewer the media for their unfair treatment of her husband.
“Rand assaulted in blindside attack, six broken ribs and lung damage: media calls it a ‘dispute,'” she said. “Rand and I held hostage for 9 minutes by mob spitting on and threatening to kill us: media says we were ‘yelled at.’ Rand calmly questions gov authorities: ‘Rand ATTACKS Fauci!'”
She also pushed back on media reports that the incident causing Sen. Paul’s broken ribs was simply a neighborly dispute over yard waste.
“More lies,” she said. “The violent felon who assaulted Rand admitted in court and to police that he had NEVER complained to Rand about the lawn or anything else. His lawyer used the ‘lawn dispute’ excuse in the media and you report the lie as a fact, omitting his violent anti GOP FB posts.”
To her supporters, though, the Senator’s wife offers thanks and gratitude:
“To all of the kind people who have offered us your prayers and messages of encouragement today, thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
